Of Poseidon The Syrena Legacy Anna Banks Books

Mermaids, sizzling romance, plenty of well written Greek mythology and the perfect amount of suspense makes this one debut I couldn't get enough of. Anna Banks's debut is seriously AWESOME! With the recent release of mermaid books, this is one that will definitely stand out and shine. What Anna does not only with her mythology, but her over all story was fabulous! I loved that it's both mythical and believable. Okay, it's believable if you like to think that hot mer-people that live out in ocean, which I will freely admit I'd like to think they do (don't judge me). At least in mind they do.

Oh for the love of Poseidon and Triton! The characters in this book are awesome, and I loved getting to know this cast of snarky, well developed characters. I don't have enough space in this post to list all the things I loved about Emma, Galen, and the rest of the characters. Anna did such a great job with each of them. They went from being characters in a book, to being characters I felt like I was hanging out with, and I loved that. They made me laugh out loud, sigh and cheer them on. Anna also does an amazing job with telling this story from two different points of view, from Emma and Galen. It was incredibly easy for me to know who was talking during each chapter, because of the distinct voices Emma and Galen both have. Let me just say, hello Galen!

Emma is one of those fiery, average, teenage girls who ends up finding out she has an extraordinary gift. It's her gift that Galen, the drop dead gorgeous Prince of Syrena was sent to land to find. Not realizing she's anything special, it takes everything Galen has to get her to see what she can do. Let me just say, he's got his worked cut out for him, because Emma doesn't fall for his hot boy looks as easily as everyone else. With the help of his sister and good friend Toraf, Galen introduces Emma to an entire world she knew nothing about. These two definitely have the hots for each other, and I couldn't help but snicker over the things they say to each other and some of the things they do. Toraf and Galen's sister Rayna can dish the snark just as well. The relationship these four have was believable, and extremely easy for me to get into.

This book's lore rocked! The world, the explanation for how Galen and his people could be above land, the Greek mythology that makes up Anna's story and her creative spin on it was so well done. I got sucked right into this enticing world, and I really enjoyed how Anna made both the under sea world and the human world so creditable. Aside from the smoldering paranormal romance between the characters, I fell in love with Anna's mythical world. I seriously couldn't get enough of it, and the fact Anna backs up her reasoning for some of the things that happen made the story that much more creditable for me. I loved the seeing of that vs just the telling. It's not just the awesome romance and character chemistry that I really enjoyed, I liked the mystery and the quest to find answers over how Emma could have the gift of Poseidon when she's also so human. The shocking plot twist at the very end of the book makes me wish I had the sequel like now! I didn't see that one coming.

If you're looking for that perfect summer read to spend the afternoon with, than I highly recommend picking up this debut! This is one hot, sizzling, summer read!

Of Poseidon The Syrena Legacy Anna Banks Books Reviews

This will be a quick review, as I've seen so many when I bought this that would cover what I mean to say in depth.

1st I bought this book because of my interest in mare-folk, but definitely not because of the reviews. The book sounded childish to me, to be honest. And in some ways it was, mainly the way the characters talk and react, like they are highschoolers (which they technically are) and not young adults. That sounds horrible, but it really isn't, because Banks' writing is not juvenile. In fact i almost gave it 4 stars, because It can be surprisingly deep and complex. You come to care for every character, and long for their reactions. But it is not quite there for me. Maybe a list of likes and dislikes would help

Likes
It's fun and fast paced
Emma and Galen's love is delicious like chocolate mousse pie. Rich and involving. And it grows like normal human love, but at the same time it's magical. They have the perfect amount of sass and thoughtfulness for each other
The secondary characters are delightful and you yearn to know them better
It's funny AND romantic
It is very appropriate regarding sex and other decisions a young person has to make. So much so I'm buying it for my teenager niece
The sexist Syrena society didn't hurt the book for me, especially because the main characters are against it

Dislikes
All the exaggerated teenager lingo ("ohmysweetgoodness" there was SO much of it, especially considering the main character is 18 years old)
The shallow and cliche view of mare-folk
The typical cliche high-school scenes (like girls being retarded just because there's a handsome boy, or territorial guys fighting like poultry for a girl)

Overall It is a good book for people who are looking for something fun and light, with loads of romance. I'll definitely read the next one (especially because of the Cliff hanger!)

Ps after reading the last book of the series I'm coming back to this review to give some warning it doesn't end well. Not in a sense that it ends badly for the characters, but it is just not a good ending, not well made. I am an older person reading teenage books, so that might be it, but the trilogy as a hole was too juvenile for me. I would probably still give it as a gift to my 12 year-old niece, though. I have reviewed the last one, so check that out if you want to know more.
This is a romance. It's got some cute legends and theories, and it's basically about mermaids. This book switches between the 2 head's pov. Not hard to follow, pretty clean, only some kissing and the worst cuss is hell, which I don't even really consider cussing. It does end in a cliff hanger. I'm rereading to remember this book. I went through the first 2 pretty quick and then lost steam in the last one. I don't remember if it was the book itself or that I had fallen out of my reading kick... On rare occasions I get in a kick where I don't want to read, and sometimes good series get out on the back burner for a couple of years. I think I had to wait for the 3rd book, and when it came out I was already in the middle of either another series or done reading for a few weeks. I'm trying to finish some stuff while I impatiently wait for my next volume of One Punch Man. I almost only gave it 3 stars cause I'm not really in the mood for teen romance, but don't feel like I should buy something else til I catch up on some of my backlog.
